GET INSPIRED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Saturday, July 1, 2017

Dear Fellow Rotarians, Dear Visitors,

This year Rotarians across the world remain committed to making a difference. Indeed that is the annual theme of Rotary International President Ian Riseley for 2017-18:  Rotary Making a Difference. So how does this affect us daily?

You may have heard the story of “The Star Thrower”, by Loren Eisely, in which an old man meets a young boy throwing starfish into the ocean, one by one. “The tide has washed them up onto the beach”, says the boy, “and they can’t return to the sea by themselves. When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”

The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

Let us consider how we can make that positive difference in someone’s life, each and every day.

Yours truly,

Cory Edwards, President Rotary Club Zurich Belvoir International
